It makes sense that guinea pigs are a good source of food because they are much more efficient at meat production than larger animals. (The ratio of food that they consume per pound of meat is much lower than with cows and pigs).
I’ve seen them served on plates in Peru and watched my companions eat them, but I’ve never seen them dressed up for a festival. I loved both the Peruvian women and their dresses and the guinea pigs.
OMG!!!! that’s disgusting!!!!!!!!!!! they dress them up, play with them, feed them, then kill them, cook them and eat them???? OMG! that’s so cruel! =-(
Cruel, what is cruel about it? In terms of animal welfare, it’s less cruel than caged chickens etc. Guinea pigs like to be handled & I gues most McDonlad cows have far worse treatment before the bolt gun arrives.
Horrible to read the replies of people who think this is ‘gross’ or ‘cruel’. It’s not.
How far you all have removed yourselves from your food. Meat is ok, but not if you can see if it’s from an animal. Really sickening.
I agree cuy are better treated than most food animals in the US and that this is a cultural practice, but that doesn’t make killing and eating cuy NOT cruel! There are people who think it’s cruel to cause suffering to any animal when it can be avoided. They’re called vegetarians or vegans.
I’m peruvian and it’s my culture to eat Guinea Pigs. I prefer not to but it doesn’t mean it’s cruel or disgusting. It’s a way we are raised. At least our guinea pigs are treated right, feed right and cared for compared to the meat in the US, where the cows are raised in factories and practically dead when they are born. So to those ignorant people saying it’s gross and disgusting… it’s not. My world is better in health and the treatment of animals of 100 % better then Americans cause if you compare the meat here, it’s actually the most disgusting meat in the world and you’re eating it.
oh .oh my are you dressing up them in the first place if you’re gonna eat them up :O
nah , its in the culture , never thought got them in the peru’c culture
Dude thats just messed up man!
